For most people in a Kansas City summer, yes — but it's worth understanding what you're buying. Tesla's factory glass is genuinely good at blocking ultraviolet light; the owner's manual rates the roof at a UV Index under 2. What it doesn't do much about is infrared, and infrared is what you feel as heat. That's the gap window film fills. If your Tesla sits outside through July and August, tinting the roof targets the part of sunlight the factory glass leaves alone. If the car lives in a garage, it matters less.

UV, yes. Heat, not really — and they're not the same thing. Ultraviolet is a small slice of the sunlight hitting your car; infrared is the large one, and it's the part that makes a parked car hot. Tesla's glass handles the UV well. Window film is what addresses the infrared.

No. Film is applied to the inside surface of the glass and cut around the camera housings, so it never sits in the optical path.

Usually, for two reasons. Ceramic film is non-metallic, so it can't create the signal interference that metallized films sometimes cause — worth caring about on a car this connected. And it rejects considerably more infrared than standard film, which is the difference you actually notice on a hot day.

Three to five days, depending on the time of year — film cures more slowly in cold weather. We'll tell you where you land when you pick the car up.

It's a known part of the job and we work around it. Every Tesla has frameless door glass that drops a fraction of an inch when the door opens. Depending on conditions, we'll heat the glass before allowing it to drop, and every car gets its windows fully tested before it leaves the shop.

Glass geometry, not vehicle size. The Model 3 has a large curved rear panel that has to be shaped to fit, which makes it the more demanding car overall. The Model Y is more straightforward on the body — but its roof is a single continuous pane with no center brace, which makes it the hardest single piece we do, and it's priced accordingly.

Yes. We tint the four doors and the large quarter windows connected to the front glass. The rear glass sits under the tonneau cover, so it isn't part of the job.
